About us
The Board Leadership Society is referred to in the founding document as "an association for the development of board work in Denmark" and over the years the association has developed a close dialogue with the business and academic community. The association promotes its mission through conferences, board education, and knowledge sharing through events. Since 2013, The Board Leadership Society has organized more than 150 conferences focusing on classic board topics - strategy, governance, succession, and the company's interest -, trends and important current topics, company law, the corporate governance system, the board itself and the board's interaction with management and owners. The topics have also included the board's tasks and relations with the outside world as well as the most important trends and challenges in the companies' environment (macro).
Our History
The Board Leadership Society was founded on 7 May 2013 as a non-profit organization. The association was founded in a collaboration between the Danish business community and the corporate governance around Copenhagen Business School in the form of 8 companies and organizations, 24 board chairs, and 10 professors. The 8 companies and organizations were Active Owners, Confederation of Danish Industry, Dansk Erhverv, PensionDanmark, CBS, EY, Kromann Reumert, and CBS Executive.
International co-operation
The Board Leadership Society is the Danish member of the European Confederation of Directors' associations (ecoDa). The Board Leadership Society is represented on the board of ecoDa, and the membership provides access to an overview and close dialogue on the EU's considerations and initiatives in the governance and company area. In particular, EU legislative initiatives in continuation of the Green Deal, i.e. green and sustainable transition with the EU as a pioneer region, mean new European perspectives within governance and corporate governance.
Global Board Leadership Summit (TBD)
With support from the Danish Industry Foundation, The Board Leadership Society, in close co-operation with stakeholders in Singapore, especially HCLI (Human Capital Leadership Institute), a subsidiary of Temasek, created the Global Board Leadership Summit. Temasek is an owner/investor in previously publicly owned companies in Singapore. The collaboration also includes Stanford and leading board professionals around the world. The purpose of the initiative is to increase the competitiveness of Danish companies by upskilling Danish boards in challenges, dilemmas, and corporate governance from an international perspective. More than 1,000 business leaders from around the world have participated in GBLS and the four conferences.
Cyber
In order to strengthen the competitiveness of Danish companies, The Board Leadership Society has established the Centre for Cyber Competencies, which has developed a cyber simulator training center in collaboration with CBS and the business community. The project, which is supported by the Danish Industry Foundation, started in 2019. The goal is to train 2,000 board and management members annually by 2026. The programs focus on the cyber threat, cyber resilience, and cyber governance. European regulation with new legal requirements for board and management members, including mandatory training, supports the importance of the project.
